Training Log: Day 33 of 99, Chest-Shoulders-Triceps-Ab Ripper
Hit the 1/3 mark today. Did my 2nd Chest-Shoulder-Tri workout in 3 days, so I had some soreness to deal with. Because of the DOMS, I decided to go light with higher reps to pump some blood into the healing muscles. Did sets of 12, and instead of pushups, alternated between Bench Press and Flyes on the Bowflex. For shoulders and triceps, I went very light, using 15 pound dumbbells for most exercises. Still got a very good pump…and I am now less sore.
Ab Ripper – there’s no skirting that one. Ugh.
Til tomorrow-

Training Log: Day 32 of 99, Back and Biceps
Ahhhh….back to my sweet spot. Double Back, Double Biceps…..Double Back, Double Biceps, with some shrugs thrown in for good measure. Felt sore from yesterday, but working opposing muscle groups helps you maintain strength even when a little tired from the Chest-Shoulder-Tricep workout.
Great pump-feel good. Back in the swing. 2 more weightlifting sessions this week, then back to incorporating some cardio again next week.
Til tomorrow,
Dave
Training Log: Day 31 of 99, Chest-Shoulders-Triceps-Ab Ripper
Unfortunately, took 6 days off for job hunting related reasons. Had to be done. But today, back in the swing, and boy, was it tough.
A week off makes you feel rested…maybe too rested. Especially with a lot of travel and bad food mixed in (hello again McDonalds), my body needed a wake up call, and the start of Phase II gave it to me.
Did Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps today, which is a brutal workout. Very tough. A lot of new chest moves – Side to Side Pushups, One Arm Pushups, Plyo Pushups…make you really work hard. Not many breaks in this session either compared to others. Starting off with negative pushups really sucks the life out of you to begin with right away. Weighted circles – ouch.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, topped it off with Ab Ripper. Enough said.
Back in the saddle-
Dave
Training Log: (July 23-28), OFF
Had to drive to Charlotte, NC from here in Chicago for an important job interview – 4 days – 1600 miles driven….8 hour interview on Friday, and sleeping, left no time for training. Priorities, you know?
The good news is this happened during my recovery week, so although I am exhausted from traveling, and my muscles are stiff from being in a car for 24 hours, I should truly be recovered for tomorrow.
Phase II begins with Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, Ab Ripper, and a jog. That should wake me back up!
Training Log: Day 24 of 99, Cardio X
Did this one a tad abbreviated today, as I am getting ready for a job interview this morning and making travel arrangements for the balance of the week.
Skipped the Yoga portion of Cardio X and went straight to Kenpo, Plyo, and Core (about 30 out of the 42 minutes). Even though it was briefer than normal, I still got a nice sweat going. Bringing my Stretch and Core DVDs with me on the road as those will be my Thursday and Friday workouts.
If I don’t post for a few days, it’s because I don’t have internet access in the hotel….if not, I’ll catch up Saturday.
Till then-
Dave
Training Log: Day 23 of 99, Core Synergistics
Tony Horton is an evil, evil man. I actually think I sweat more today doing this than when I do Plyo…..the reality is you can “slack” a bit at times on Plyo….move slow…but there’s no getting around Core. Superman, Banana, Bow to Boat….c’mon!!! Running pushups? What kind of sadistic childhood did this man have? Anyway, got it done, with the realization that I should do it more often than on recovery weeks….maybe sub in for some cardio work…because if you can do this workout, you are one hell of an athlete.
Some recovery week….ball busting core….
Till tomorrow,
Dave
Training Log: Day 22 of 99, OFF
Off day today, and then recovery week starts tomorrow with Core Synergistics and Running.
Training Log: Day 21 of 99, X Stretch
Ahhhh…needed that. Whole body was sore today, and now I feel good. First time today I’ve been able to do Bow….but am still too scared and unable to do Shoulder Plough. Flexibility definitely improving. Recovery week this week, but run program going up a notch.
Off to mow the lawn.

Training Log: Day 20 of 99, Shoulders and Arms, Running
Jeez..only 20 days in….feels a lot longer. Was very strong in Shoulders and Arms today. Definitely my best routine. Was also motivated to know that week 3 is over, besides a Stretch workout tomorrow, and my Recovery week has semi-officially begun. Phase II will bring on new routines, and am looking forward to the variety.
Also in Phase II of the run program. Second day of doing intervals of, 90 second jog, followed by 90 second walk, followed by 3 minute jog….then capped it off by 7 minute walk…total of about 20 minutes.
Till tomorrow-
Dave
Training Log: Day 19 of 99, Chest and Back, Ab Ripper
Woke up late today, but got the workout in. Did 8 sets of push ups, for about 130 total (varying grips), and alternated shrugs and lat pulldowns. For the last 4 sets of chest, I did a bench press/flyes superset on the bowflex. Felt good and strong.
Ab Ripper….as always…..ugh. But, I got ‘er done.
Afterwards spent about 2.5 hours walking around the park district with my kids (probably about 3 miles of total walking), so I’m going to count that as a second workout for the day. Would have been longer, but it started pouring rain on us.
Really looking forward to my recovery week next week. Till tomorrow…..
-Dave
